You will then learn how to replicate the grid on drawing paper and will enlarge and reduce its size. You will then select one grid on drawing paper and transfer your drawing onto your final drawing paper.

During the session, you will learn

This class is for beginners or those that want to revisit their drawing skills. You will focus on drawing leaves, using graphite pencils to achieve a realistic rendering of your selected botanical subject.
In this class, you will learn how to draw from life and a photograph, plus learning about mark making and tonal techniques.
Your teacher Joanna will guide you through the process she uses to produce her detailed graphite botanical artworks.
During the session, you will learn
to draw using a graphite pencil to achieve different tones
how to hold a pencil to achieve different mark making techniques
how to photograph your subject and edit it to black and white
how to depict your chosen leaf, focusing on how a grid can help you accurately depict the outline of your subject

This class is for beginners and all levels wanting to explore this medium for botanical work.
Discover the art of observing nature and bringing it to life with coloured pencils. This beginner-friendly class introduces you to essential techniques, materials, and creative confidence to start your botanical art journey.
In this class, you will:
Work with a basic selection of 22 coloured pencils
Learn colour mixing and blending techniques through guided exercises
Develop your observation skills and learn to analyse colour components in natural subjects
Look at a variety of pencil brands and understand the difference between student and artist-quality materials
Explore how to choose the right paper for different projects
Create a small botanical artwork using a limited palette
Build the technical skills and confidence to complete a finished coloured pencil piece
Building up on the previous session, you will apply what you have learnt by starting a small artwork. Coloured pencils are a slow medium, you will take your artwork to finish at home.
By the end of the course, you will have acquired technical skills and have the knowledge and confidence to complete a coloured pencil artwork.

Experiment with watercolour pencils, embossing tools, washes, and dry pencil methods
Explore the intricacy of colour mixing and layering to create lifelike textures and tones
Work with the same base colours from the Introduction to Coloured Pencils class, plus selected watercolour pencils (list supplied on registration)
Develop greater control, blending, and detail in your botanical drawings

In this class you will:

By the end of this class, you will have started a detailed drawing and will take your piece of fruit and drawing home to continue. This workshop will take place in an upstairs workshop space, which is accessible via a staircase with a landing. If you have any accessibility concerns, please message us, and we will endeavour to book a downstairs space instead.
You will also be able to purchase a basic starter pack after the class if you wish to continue with your drawing skills.
Guests will get:
3 hours of tuition, all materials and paper supplied
You will go home with class notes and a completed practice activity, your 5 x 7” drawing, and your chosen leaf to continue working on
