In this class, you will learn how to draw from life and a photograph, plus learning about mark making and tonal techniques.
Your teacher Joanna will guide you through the process she uses to produce her detailed graphite botanical artworks.
During the session, you will learn
to draw using a graphite pencil to achieve different tones
how to hold a pencil to achieve different mark making techniques
how to photograph your subject and edit it to black and white
how to depict your chosen leaf, focusing on how a grid can help you accurately depict the outline of your subject
to apply this knowledge and draw your own detailed leaf
By the end of this class you will have started a detailed drawing and will take your leaf and drawing home to continue.

This class is for beginners and all levels wanting to explore this medium for botanical work.
Discover the art of observing nature and bringing it to life with coloured pencils. This beginner-friendly class introduces you to essential techniques, materials, and creative confidence to start your botanical art journey.
In this class, you will:
Work with a basic selection of 22 coloured pencils
Learn colour mixing and blending techniques through guided exercises
Develop your observation skills and learn to analyse colour components in natural subjects
Look at a variety of pencil brands and understand the difference between student and artist-quality materials
Explore how to choose the right paper for different projects
Create a small botanical artwork using a limited palette
Build the technical skills and confidence to complete a finished coloured pencil piece
Building up on the previous session, you will apply what you have learnt by starting a small artwork. Coloured pencils are a slow medium, you will take your artwork to finish at home.
By the end of the course, you will have acquired technical skills and have the knowledge and confidence to complete a coloured pencil artwork.

You will focus on drawing a chosen flower, using graphite pencils and a paper stump to achieve a realistic rendering of your selected botanical subject. You will learn about photographing your subject, composition, shapes, tone and textures.
Your teacher Joanna will guide you through the process she uses to produce her detailed graphite botanical artworks, in a friendly and supportive environment that is suitable for beginners, ongoing beginners and people wanting to revisit their drawing skills.
During the session, you will learn
to draw using a graphite pencil to achieve different tones and textures
how to use a paper stump to achieve different mark making techniques
how to photograph your subject and edit it to black and white
how to depict your chosen flower, focusing on how a grid can help you accurately depict the outline of your subject

Develop greater control, blending, and detail in your botanical drawings

This is an intermediate drawing class, a prior knowledge of coloured pencils is preferable.
This class will introduce other techniques used with traditional coloured pencils in Botanical Art to depict realistic fruits/vegetables. Using also watercolour pencils, embossing tools, washes and dry pencil participants will explore the intricacy of colour mixing and layering to render fruits/vegetables.
Participants will be working with the same basic colours used in Introduction to coloured pencils class, complemented with some watercolour pencils.
